Choose one conflict in The Hobbit, and explain how Tolkien uses it to move the story forward?

Response: One conflict in The Hobbit is when the troll meet Bilbo and the dwarfs. What happens is a big, giant troll sees Bilbo trying to see what the troll has in his pocket and troll pick Bilbo up and shows him to his friends. His friend say they want to eat him but, the one troll that found him doesn't want to eat him and let go of Bilbo. His friends call the one troll stupid and then they all get in a huge fight when this is happening Bilbo runs over and hides. After a few minutes the dwarfs came out one by one the same time the trolls stopped fight and threw a sack over them. The Bilbo told the last dwarf, Thorin, about the trolls. So, Thorin grab a stick and tried to fight back but, the trolls got a sack over him too. I loved this part of the story because you wanted to know what will happen next. What kind of conflict is this? I would have liked for you to write about how they get out of this fix. ~Mrs. Best

In your own words, describe what happens next to Bilbo and the dwarfs in the forest?

Response:Bilbo finally finds the dwarfs and Gandalf than they continue on their journey.Later, they come to a forest and hear wolfs howling in the night and decide to get into a tree so the pack couldn't get them. At the same time the King of the eagles hear the wolfs and go and see what is happening. The goblins also ran to see what the commotion was about. Then the wizard, Gandalf, used a fire spell to scare the wolves away. The goblins see the fire and built it to burn down the tree. As the tree was about to crumble the eagles soared down and grabbed them out of the tree. Little mixed-up. Eagles only come at the end. You do not describe Gandolf's role and the mortal enemy he made this day. Don't you think that might prove important? ~ Mrs. Best

Think about the times you have learned a new skill, moved, changed schools, competed in sports, welcomed a new pet, discovered a new friend, performed in front of an audience, or had a terrifying fall. These events are adventures in process. Have you grown or changed from your experience with any of these situations, as Bilbo grew and changed because of his adventure with the dwarves? Recall a time when something happened to cause you to grow and change in a positive way. Respond on your wiki page.

Response: When I was 10 years old my parent said we might get a new dog. The deal was we need to take care, play, and teach her rule (like no lying on the cough). Later we got her and my job was to feed her and throw her the tennis ball (fetch). This taught me responsiblite and I learned what I need to do. This is like Bilbo because he learned what is expected of himself too. ~ This would be a great adventure, and many students used their dogs. Read Coco's or Evan's to see a more complete example of this kind of adventure. ~Mrs. Best

If Thorin could have lived, do you think he would have regretted his greed? What do you think Tolkien is trying to teach us about material wealth by Thorin's death? In your response, site textual evidence to support your response. Use page numbers too.

Response: Yes, I think he would regret his greed. He will regret it because of "The Battle of the Five Armies" (pg.303) which started the war because everyone wanted the hoard, and no one would share it. Now I think he would rather not have everyone go through this misery. ~ A chapter title is not a citation. You need to quote words from the chapter. This is much too brief. You do not even state who you are talking about. ~Mrs. Best
